Time to go!

Prepping for backpacking season here. Today we’re dehydrating fruit for oatmeal. Tomorrow will be pasta and sauce. I need to do some research to see if we can dehydrate Field Roast. Mom and Maureen…I’m so glad I put the dehydrator in the Early Out! 😉

We’re hoping to head up to Willawaw Lakes this weekend and Rabbit Lake the next or soon after. Rabbit Lake is higher and more likely to have snow later.

Tomorrow we are buying a bear can for all this great food. 🙂

    • Hi! The biggest expense is the machine, but you can find them for under $150, much less if you find a used one. You can dehydrate a lot of what you already eat! We often just dehydrate our leftovers if we can. Remember that protein takes longer to rehydrate, so we often keep it separate and get it into water ahead of veg and carbs as we’re setting up camp. For pasta and rice, you actually want to cook it first and then dehydrate it. This way you don’t use up too much fuel boiling water for 10 minutes. Couscous and ramen noodles are great alternatives. We just toss the ramen seasoning and add our own spices and veggies. There are a lot of great books out there, and trial and error with small quantities will teach you a lot. Have fun!!

  1. I hope the temps are perfect and the snow is distant. The sentence about a bear can can be/ was read too quickly to give the impression that a bear is capable of doing something for you.
